How we began
Abbey Partnership was founded in 1991 as a Quantity Surveying
consultancy practice.
To enable different business opportunities to be pursued,
the partners set up Abbey Projects Ltd and in 1997, we
had our first success in securing a site for a residential
development of 47 flats in Yorkhill, Glasgow. We completed
the development in 1999 and sold out off-plan.
With this success, we grew the development company and
went on to build over 250 units over the next 8 years
culminating with our two largest developments at The Matrix
in Glasgow city centre comprising 73 flats with commercial
space and Chroma, formerly part of Langside College in
the South Side of Glasgow comprising 65 flats.
Abbey Projects Ltd completed its last project, Chroma
in February 2005.
Abbey Scotland Ltd
In 2003, two directors from Abbey Projects Ltd, Gordon
Bennett and Scott Martin, set up a new property development
company, Abbey Scotland Ltd.
Since then we have successfully completed three developments: one of 68 houses in Knockentiber, Ayrshire, another in Devon Place, Edinburgh, where we developed 6 high quality terraced houses and in August 2008 we completed our development of the former Knightswood Bus Depot administration building into 30 flats and a new purpose built office for ourselves. The development is known as Munro Apartments (www.munroapartments.co.uk) and has now sold out.
We have three developments in the pipeline:
- A new build block of 14 luxury flats in Milngavie.
- A mixed development of retirement flats, mainstream flats and townhouses in Largs.
- A mixed development of retirement flats and townhouses in Paisley.
The directors are very much hands-on when it comes to
project managing the developments. Both directors are
Chartered Quantity Surveyors with considerable experience
and this lends weight to managing design teams and contractors. Support is provided by Michelle Bradshaw BA (Hons) who is the Customer Services Manager.
Everything else is outsourced, namely Architect, Engineer,
Quantity Surveying, Planning Supervisor, Sales, Marketing,
Customer Relations and the construction work.

Vision
Abbey is striving to develop some of the best
new urban and suburban homes in Scotland. We recognize
that people are rediscovering the convenience and pleasure
of urban living. We have been creating exceptional new
homes exactly where the new city dwellers want to live.
We also realize that there is a demand for affordable
family homes and believe we have satisfied this requirement
at our Kyles development in Ayrshire. We are actively
seeking to repeat this success.
Abbey defines the specific target market for each individual
project at an early stage. This gives the opportunity
to match the customers needs more closely. By analysing
how people use their space and surroundings, Abbey create
functionally and esthetically desirable designs.
Each dwelling we develop offers exceptionally high specification
for its size, type and price. No two developments are
the same. We add value to property by creating unique
design-led homes, equipped to the highest specification.
Whether as a buyer’s own home, or as a buy-to-let
property, an Abbey home will hopefully represent a great
investment.
The company has an enviable track record of selling most
developments off-plan. This is achieved through the early
definition of the target market and the use of technology
to sell the vision of the development.
New Office
Our new office is now complete and we moved in to this in October 2008.
